How did I find Pilates?
I have always been a sporty person, tried many different disciplines, become better in some, or even semi-professional in a few, but my last 5 years have been ruled by Pilates only.
It started when I was looking for a new way of building strength. Gym, functional training, calisthenics are all great things I have done before, but due to my scoliosis, I ended up leaving them after a while. Little did I know that it wasn’t the heavy weight that caused back pain eventually, but the lack of core strength.
Yoga is also a great way to train your body, but in terms of pace, I needed something more potent, something tougher… and that’s when I started Pilates. First I tried Dynamic classes, thinking that the usual ones would be too boring or easy. Boy was I wrong…
I remember how humbling the first few weeks were, not even lasting 40 reps in Hundred - dying on the Bridge sequences - but exactly this unexpected challenge that grabbed my attention! The challenge and the fact that my back stopped hurting in a long time.
Ultimately, Pilates gave me what I was looking-for: building strength without risking back pain, while gaining mobility and a better understanding of my own body.
